Christmas Shopping in Tallaght

It is a high time to do Xmas shopping!

Square Shopping Centre is just on our doorstep and is well worth to visit. It was the first of four large shopping complexes built in the towns surrounding Dublin from the late 1980s onwards and was for a while the largest in Ireland.
Just imagine: 45.000 people visited Square on opening day 23rd October 1990. Now you can find there over 160 shops, including Tesco, Dunnes Stores, Debenhams and Argos.

We prepared an offer especially for all the late shoppers: stay overnight in our hotel, leave the car on our complimentary car park and enjoy shopping, and then have a nice glass of wine and a selection of canapes. Christmas is all around

Since Michael Buble switched on Xmas lights in Grafton Street, we at the Plaza have been in a very Xmassy mood. We just cannot wait for Ray, our Maintenance Manager, to put a Xmas Tree in the lobby.


And it is not only Xmas all around, there are Santas everywhere!

We were recently discussing why the Santa is a middle aged, grey haired man with weight problems, wearing red clothes. Unfortunately we couldn't find the answer. If somebody knows - please let us know.

So far we are going to see Santa in his Grotto at the Tallaght Square Shopping Centre - he will be there until 24th of December.


And don't miss Santa's Magical Forest of Dreams - Ireland's biggest indoor Christmas themed family event, when it visits Tallaght. See Tinkerbell light up the tallest Christmas tree; help Little Red Riding Hood deliver her presents to Grandma and send  your letter to Santa  through the wonderful magical post office. 
Walk through the North Pole Slide down the GIANT ice slide, visit the Elves Workshop, see Santa come down the chimney and visit Rudolph and friends at the reindeer farm. Be careful not to waken Wee Willie Winkie and help to chase away the Silly Billy Big Bad Wolf!

Jedward in Tallaght

Some love them, some loathe them, but these two blond twins are easily recognizable by everybody.

John and Edward became famous by taking part in the 6th series of The X Factor where they managed to survive 7 weeks. Simon Cowell's first impression was that "they are not very good and incredibly annoying" and the truth is that the boys cannot really dance or sing. But obviously it is not the most important thing in show business.

Cool twins managed to represent Ireland in Eurovision Song Contest and take part in Celebrity Big Brother.

They will perform in Tallaght Basketball Arena on the 20th of November so do not wait, buy the tickets to see Jedward live. And after the concert share your opinion with us.

WORLD GRAND PRIX DARTS

A very exciting event will take place in Citywest (just 10 min drive from our hotel) from the 3rd to the 9th of October: World Grand Prix Dart 2011.

Darts is a very popular pub game but  you might not be aware  that it was also well known in medieval times.
The popular belief is that Darts was created as a result of the boredom of being a warrior and also to keep soldiers’ throwing arms in practice.
Between battles, soldiers would challenge each other to games of throwing short spears at a thin slice of a felled tree. The age rings in the wood and the cracks that developed from drying created a simple likeness of a modern dart board comprised of multiple lines and many different scoring areas.

Over the years the game grew in popularity. Even noble men and kings were playing from time to time:  England’s King Henry VIII was given a set of darts as a gift.

Today the sport is most popular in Britain and USA.
The establishment of PDC (Professional Darts Corporation) resulted in introduction of key, high profile competitions including the World Matchplay, Grand Prix and the World Championship.

We had the VIP today at the Plaza - Nikki McGettigan, our 500th Facebook Fan.
Nikki is spending the night in the beautiful Plaza Suite, but before checking in she was welcomed by one of our managers Mr Colm Lynch with a glass of champagne.

FC Copenhagen

Plaza Hotel had a pleasure to host FC Copenhagen, a professional Danish Football Club.
FCK plays in the Danish Superliga and is one of the most successful clubs in Danish football,  it is also the highest-ranking Scandinavian club in the UEFA team rankings list, currently the 38th best club in Europe.

As you can see in the picture, our General Manager had a great time and proved that he could be a good player himself ;)

Tallaght

I was asked a few days ago where is this hotel I work for, and the reaction to my answer was:
-Are any hotels there???

Obviously for some people Tallaght seems to be somewhere far away from civilization, which is not true!

Tallaght Village is well linked with the city centre by buses and LUAS, it is also very close to the motorway M50. Since the late 80's it has become a large, vital suburban area of Dublin and now has a thriving local arts, cultural, sports, and economic outlook.

You will find here a big shopping area - The Square and Village Green with many good stores like Marks&Spencer, Debenhams, Tesco and Eason. Those looking for more intellectual attraction will enjoy the Civic Theatre and a great library which offers interesting workshops and lectures.
If you are into sports you might have already visited the National Basketball Arena and Shamrock Rovers Stadium and if you like keeping fit you will find numerous gyms and leisure centres like Westpark Fitness.

Families with children will love bowling in the Leisureplex, the Adventure World and Aquarium.

And for adults who like going out we have plenty of bars, restaurants, pubs, a casino and night clubs.

Not to mention about the amazing Wicklow Mountains which are just within 15 min drive!

What the end of the month!

First Take That took over Dublin and one week after - Neil Diamond.
All hotels were fully booked and it was impossible to find a room.Next big event is coming - The Script plays in Aviva on the 2nd of June.

If you cannot find accommodation in the city center - don't despair, we still have rooms at a good price!
With LUAS at the doorstep you can get to the city center within 30 min and then walk or take DART to Aviva.If you are driving - leave your car in our complimentary secure car park.

Have you recently stayed with us? If so, you might have seen this young lady - Russian tennis player Vitalia Diatchenko.
Vitalia has qualified for the main draw of the Wimbledon Championship for the first time in her career. She was our guest for a few weeks before heading to England.
